Bush Sugar Baby Watermelon delivers exceptional sweetness in a compact, space-saving form that performs beautifully in both garden beds and large containers. Its short vines stay manageable while producing round, richly colored melons with firm, vibrant red flesh and classic summertime flavor. This early-producing variety is well suited for warm climates and provides reliable results even where space is limited.

Growing Information
Planting
- Start seeds outdoors after soil temperatures warm to at least 70°F for rapid germination.
- Choose a sunny site or a large, 7-gallon or larger container with well-draining soil.
- Sow seeds 1 inch deep and space plants to allow for a mature spread of about 36–48 inches.
- Water thoroughly after planting and maintain lightly moist soil as seedlings establish.
- Provide warm conditions early on to help young plants gain strength before vines begin to run.
- Thin to the strongest seedling per planting spot to support full-size melons.
Maintenance
- Keep plants evenly watered through flowering and fruit set to support consistent growth.
- Mulch beneath vines to limit weeds and preserve moisture during hot weather.
- Train the compact 3–4 foot vines to stay directed away from walkways or neighboring crops.
- Feed with a balanced fertilizer as vines begin to run to encourage strong fruit development.
- Monitor for pests around leaf undersides, removing them promptly to protect young plants.
Harvest & Storage
- Harvest when fruits reach full size—about 8 inches across—and show a duller, matte skin sheen indicating maturity.
- Expect ripe melons roughly 75 days from planting as the vines complete their short production cycle.
- Clip fruits from the vine rather than pulling to avoid damaging the plant.
- Store uncut melons in a cool, dry location where they keep their sweetness for several days.
- Refrigerate after cutting to maintain flavor and texture.
