Rise and Shine Summer Squash delivers abundant, bright-yellow fruits on vigorous upright plants ideal for gardens and small spaces. Nearly spineless stems make harvesting easier, while the plants’ vertical habit encourages excellent airflow and easy picking. The uniform 4–8 inch fruit offers rich, buttery flavor with impressive consistency and eye-catching quality. This hybrid variety performs reliably and produces generously throughout the season.

Growing Information

Planting

  • Sow seeds directly outdoors once the danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed to at least 65–70°F.
  • Space plants 18–24 inches apart, allowing mature plants to reach their natural spread of approximately 30–36 inches.
  • Choose a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil to support the fast growth typical of hybrid summer squash.
  • Water deeply after planting to initiate strong root establishment and early-season vigor.
  • Encourage vertical growth by training or lightly staking plants to keep fruits elevated and easy to access.

Maintenance

  • Provide consistent, even watering at the base of the plant to support steady fruit development and prevent stress.
  • Stake plants if needed to support the 3-to-4-foot upright habit and to maintain good airflow through the canopy.
  • Mulch around the base to retain moisture and reduce weed competition throughout the growing season.
  • Monitor for squash bugs and powdery mildew, removing damaged foliage promptly to maintain plant vigor.
  • Harvest frequently to reduce strain on the plant and promote ongoing productivity.

Harvest & Storage

  • Expect first harvests roughly 45–55 days from sowing as fruits reach their ideal 4–8 inch picking size.
  • Cut squash from the plant regularly to encourage continued production throughout the season.
  • Fruits should feel firm and smooth, with bright coloration indicating peak tenderness and flavor.
  • Store freshly picked squash in the refrigerator for up to one week to maintain texture and sweetness.
  • Avoid washing fruit before refrigeration, as excess moisture shortens storage life.
