Roma VF Tomato delivers dependable yields of classic paste-style fruit with rich, meaty interiors and few seeds. These compact, determinate plants mature in about 75–80 days from transplant and thrive in beds, containers, and greenhouses alike. The tangy, concentrated flavor makes this variety ideal for sauces, pastes, drying, and hearty cooked dishes. Strong resistance to several common wilts supports healthy, productive growth throughout the season.

We ship to the Continental U.S. and Alaska only. We cannot ship to Hawaii, overseas U.S. military bases, or U.S. territories.

Growing Information

Planting

  • Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last expected frost date for your area.
  • Transplant seedlings outdoors after frost danger has passed, spacing plants 24–36 inches apart to accommodate their mature spread.
  • Choose a location with full sun and well-drained soil, enriching the planting area with compost before setting out transplants.
  • Plant seedlings slightly deeper than their original soil line to promote strong root development and a sturdy, 24–36 inch mature height.
  • Water thoroughly after planting and maintain even moisture as young plants establish.
  • Harden off seedlings for several days before transplanting to reduce shock and promote vigorous early growth.

Maintenance

  • Support plants with small stakes or cages to keep fruit off the ground and maintain airflow.
  • Water deeply and consistently, aiming for once or twice weekly depending on heat and soil type.
  • Mulching helps conserve moisture and reduce soil splashing that can contribute to disease.
  • Fertilize lightly when the first fruits set to encourage steady production.
  • Remove any damaged foliage to maintain plant health and sun exposure.

Harvest & Storage

  • Harvest Roma VF tomatoes when fruits are firm, fully colored, and reach their typical medium size.
  • Because these are paste-type tomatoes, their dense flesh stores well for short periods at room temperature.
  • For longer storage, refrigerate ripe tomatoes only after they begin to soften, or process immediately for sauces and pastes.
  • Fruit can also be dried or frozen to preserve their concentrated flavor.
  • A consistent harvest begins about 75–80 days from transplanting.
